Prof. Oksana Velgosova | Nanotechnology | Best Researcher Award

professor | Technical University of Kosice | Slovakia

Prof. Oksana Velgosová, Ph.D., is a distinguished scholar in materials science, metallurgy, and nanotechnology, currently serving as Professor at the Institute of Materials, Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling, Technical University of Košice (TUKE), Slovakia. She earned her M.Sc. (Ing.) in Metallurgy at TUKE in 1997 and her Ph.D. in Physical Metallurgy from the Slovak Academy of Sciences in 2001, beginning an academic career marked by steady advancement from Assistant Professor (2001–2011) to Associate Professor (2011–2023) and attaining full Professorship in January 2024 with her inaugural lecture, The path to advanced technology for the creation of new nanomaterials. Her pioneering research focuses on the design, preparation, and characterization of metallic and polymer nanocomposites doped with precious metal nanoparticles, advanced composites with tailored properties, and investigations into corrosion resistance, antimicrobial activity, and material toxicity, with applications in Industry 4.0, biomaterials, and sustainable metallurgy. As principal investigator and collaborator, she has led or contributed to over 20 VEGA, KEGA, and APVV-funded projects, including silver nanoparticle composites for antibacterial sensors and biomedical devices, and magnesium-carbon nanomaterials for industrial and environmental applications. Her scientific excellence is reflected in 89 Scopus-indexed papers with 576 citations (h-index 13) and 75 Web of Science publications with 416 citations (h-index 11). Internationally recognized, she has undertaken Erasmus+ teaching and research stays at leading institutions in the UK, Portugal, France, and Poland, fostering collaborations in materials science. In governance, she serves as Vice-President of TUKE’s Faculty Senate and as Advisory Editorial Board member of Acta Metallurgica Slovaca. A dedicated educator, she has taught over 24 courses and mentored numerous theses, shaping future engineers and researchers.
